How to Start a New Blog

If you are looking to start a new website or blog WordPress is the way to go. WordPress makes your life easier by allowing you to manage content. In my opinion its the future of content management system. I don’t think there is any other web publishing platform that comes even close to it.

What is WordPress

As I said before WordPress is a strong platform for publishing web content. You don’t need to hire a developer to create a website for you or write code for it. Everything is done via point and click interface. You just write content and click “publish”. WordPress has a concept of “theme” to control the look and feel of your website. You can also install plugins (they are like apps) to enhance the functionality of your website.

How to Install WordPress

There are various ways to install WordPress. But you don’t really need to worry about it. WordPress is so popular now that almost all major web hosting companies offer a “one-click” quick install option for WordPress.

Which Web Hosting to Go with

There are many web hosting companies out there with different hosting packages. It comes down to what will suit your needs.

Shared Hosting

For a new website, I would recommend shared hosting. Shared hosting is usually cheap and will get you going until your website starts to get a massive amount of traffic. HostGator, Bluehost, DreamHost seem to offer WordPress hosting at a cheaper price.

Performance Hosting

All of the above companies also offer dedicated hosting. Dedicated hosting gives you a dedicated server with more resources which is not shared with other users. That means your website will be able to handle more traffic and load faster.

If you are just looking for performance you might also want to take a look at WP Engine hosting. WP Engine is specifically for hosting WordPress sites.

Which Web Hosting I am Using

I’m currently using HostGator shared hosting (baby plan). It’s working out fine so far with moderate traffic. The page load speed is normal and I haven’t had any downtime issue yet. So overall I’m happy with it. If I start to get high traffic I might upgrade to a dedicated server or go with WP Engine.

Disclosure: This page may contain affiliate links. If you follow one of those affiliate links and purchase something it will provide me with a little bit of a commission. This costs you nothing extra but helps maintain my site, free plugins, and themes. So I thank you for your support.
